By using iHum or contributing to a campaign, you consent to the practices described below.

1. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information if you create an iHum account: email, hashed credentials, profile preferences and donation history.
  • Payment metadata returned by our payment processors (e.g. Razorpay): transaction ID, payment status, method type and last few digits of an instrument. We do not store full card numbers, CVV or banking credentials.
  • Communications you send via the contact form, email or volunteer / event sign-ups.
  • Technical data automatically collected: IP address, approximate location for currency display, browser type, device type, referring URL and basic analytics events.

2. How we use your information

  • To process donations and route funds to the relevant campaign or beneficiary.
  • To issue donation receipts and verification links by email.
  • To authenticate you, secure your account and prevent fraud or abuse.
  • To respond to enquiries, volunteer applications and event registrations.
  • To send transactional updates about a campaign you supported and, only with your consent, occasional editorial newsletters.
  • To improve the website, monitor uptime and comply with applicable laws.

3. Sharing & third-party processors

We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data only with service providers required to operate iHum, including:

  • Razorpay and other payment gateways - to process your donation. Their use of your data is governed by their respective privacy policies.
  • Email delivery providers - to send receipts, verification and auth emails.
  • Hosting and database providers - to securely store campaign and account data.
  • Beneficiaries / partner organisations - only aggregated or campaign-relevant information, never sensitive identifiers without your consent.

We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property or safety of iHum, our users or the public.

4. Cookies & analytics

iHum uses a minimal set of cookies and local storage entries strictly necessary for sign-in sessions, currency localisation and remembering your preferences. We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic patterns; we do not build advertising profiles.

5. Data retention

Donation and receipt records are retained for as long as required by Indian financial, tax and accounting regulations. Account information is retained while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account at any time; certain records (e.g. completed financial transactions) may be retained where the law requires.

6. Security

We apply reasonable administrative, technical and organisational safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), role-based access controls and row-level security on our database. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, or withdraw consent for non-essential communications. To exercise these rights, write to hello@ihum.in from the email address associated with your contribution or account.
